Raytheon Showcases Australian Enterprise Architecture Capability

SYDNEY – 27 January 2010: In its opening event of the 2010 Pacific Maritime Exposition Raytheon today recognised the importance of an Australian enterprise architecture capability.

During a ceremony at the Raytheon exhibition stand the President of Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, Mr Dan Smith, made a special presentation to Raytheon Australia’s newest Engineering Fellow, Michael Edwards.

Mr Smith said "One of the qualities that sets Raytheon Australia apart from its competition is the depth of its engineering expertise. As the company’s fourth engineering fellow in Australia Michael Edwards joins a select group of less than one per cent of Raytheon engineers worldwide."

Michael was considered as an Engineering Fellow candidate based upon his contribution as an engineer to the Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyer Program where he provides a high level of independent technical review and risk mitigation for Raytheon and the AWD Alliance.

Mr Smith said "This honour recognises Michael’s exceptional creativity and resourcefulness; his responsibility for developing highly advanced technologies, theories and concepts; as well as his particular expertise within his field.

"I am delighted that Michael was also selected to be part of the Raytheon Certified Architect Program (RCAP). This program was created to recognise the importance of architecture in the development of complex systems, such as the Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyer. RCAP further demonstrates the company’s strength as a mission systems integrator and our dedication to supporting engineers who can design, integrate, and evolve the achitectures of highly complex systems and enterprises."

So far nine Australians have become involved in various stages of the company’s certified architect program which involves extensive training in the United States in a variety of architectural methods.

"This is further evidence of Raytheon Australia’s unique capability within the Australian defence market to produce architectures for complex defence procurements that meet the needs for flexibility, stability and performance. This is a skill that will be critical for programs such as Australia’s future submarine," Mr Smith said.
