ADELAIDE – 29 March 2017: On 27 March 2017 a Raytheon Australia led team delivered the Hobart Class Command Team Trainer to the Navy. HCCTT is a shore-based training and support system for the new Air Warfare Destroyers.
Located at a facility at HMAS Watson in Sydney, the HCCTT simulates the operation of the AWD’s unique combat system, which includes the ship’s Aegis Weapon System software. The trainer allows the future Air Warfare Destroyer Command team to prepare more effectively to fight and win at sea.
The HCCTT recreates a realistic replica of the ship’s operations room, including a combination of emulated and ship-fit equipment and software. The simulation also creates scenarios that incorporate the external environment including the weather and sea state. This allows command teams to become immersed in a life-like operational environment and control the combat system as they would on board an AWD.
“Raytheon Australia is focused on meeting the nation’s combat system requirements for surface ships now and in the future,” said Michael Ward, managing director of Raytheon Australia. “Our experience in integrating complex systems, such as those on board the AWDs and in support facilities, is the foundation of our long-standing, trusted partnership with defence.”
Delivery of the HCCTT is the first in a series of capabilities that will be provided to the Navy in coming months. It will be followed by delivery of the first Air Warfare Destroyer, Hobart, later this year.
