Highlighting the robust processes which underpin the company’s capabilities, Raytheon Australia has become the first company in the Australian defence industry to be recognised for its achievement of Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) maturity level 3 across the breadth of its organisation.
CMMI is a process improvement framework developed by the Software Engineering Institute of the Carnegie Mellon University. The Institute recently validated an external appraisal of the company’s level of process maturity across 20 process areas where more than 6,000 elements of objective quality evidence were evaluated and 50 company employees interviewed by the appraisal team.
The evaluation confirmed that Raytheon Australia has sufficiently robust and repeatable processes to demonstrate a world-class capability in systems engineering, program management and integrated logistics as well as contract and subcontract management.
The Managing Director of Raytheon Australia, Mr Michael Ward, hailed the appraisal result as providing further validation for its position as a trusted partner of its defence customers. “This is another reason why our customers can have every confidence in our ability to consistently apply our people, processes and tools towards successful systems integration and mission support activities.”
Mr Ward also pointed to other tangible benefits of the accreditation including proof of the company’s mature approach to problem solving; its ability to deal with complex issues; to monitor project performance and respond as necessary to change; to assess and select vendor goods and services; to provide value to the customer through trade studies; and carry out a risk based approach to managing complex projects.
“This is strong affirmation that Raytheon Australia can be relied upon to maintain the industry’s most robust processes in systems engineering and project management and that these assets will underpin our activities in every project we undertake,” he said.
Mr Ward concluded that Raytheon Australia stood out as an industry leader in achieving CMMI Level 3 across its organisation and this supported the company’s vision to be Australia’s premier defence integrator.
